Fran Ages is an accomplished photo-based artist who resides in Ottawa, Canada and specializes in portraiture. Her artistic practice revolves around capturing authentic moments and searching for the objective truth within her subjects. She is particularly fascinated by the geography of the face, the body language of her subjects, and their unique life stories. Fran draws inspiration from Richard Avedon's iconic series "American West," which masterfully revealed the depths of personality in simple and direct portraits.
Fran's journey as an artist began with formal training at the Boca Raton Museum School of Photography in South Florida. Through various workshops in painting, polaroid transfers, video, watercolor, and acrylic painting, she honed her visual language and expanded her artistic skills. Under the guidance of esteemed mentors such as Vincent Versace, Dan Burkholder, Joyce Tenneson, Jeremy Sutton, and Michael Tardioli, Fran has continually evolved her artistic style and aesthetic. In 2018, she successfully completed the diploma program at the School of the Photographic Arts: Ottawa.
